JW Disaster Relief - One of their biggest moneymakers?

.and i just thought they were so on top of disaster relief around the world because they cared.

but when i heard this a lightbulb went off in my head:.

we just had our co visit, and our co is the guy that was the head of hurricane relief in punta gorda, florida.

Plus, when in the same country, there was a terrible disaster and many many brothers lost their homes, the WTS got funds fron NY and all the brothers got new homes, better ones than the ones that they lost. And, believe me none of them was insured. That is the honest truth.
In many countries in Africa South america and Asia, the Society builts Kingdom Halls for free and provides disaster relief for free. Money is not their motivation. They might be wrong in many aspects, but not on this one.

And you know this how? I have never heard of the Society building Kingdom Halls anywhere. And even if they did, I would not really consider that "charity". The disaster relief they provide is money/supplies that individual JWs contribute, so it doesn't really cost the Society much, they just pack it up and arrange for the items to be shipped.

It's funny how the Society used to denigrate other groups and religions for their charitable works, now they are trying to make themselves look like such a caring generous organization. Its all PR spin.

What is the next flash of New Light?

i personally feel they will have to "adjust" the fds doctrine.

the tricky thing is that the fds (whoever they are) won't approve this change while they're still alive.

they don't care, they subconsciously feel it's their end anyway and they won't undermine their doctrinal position having lost all corporate power.. so who will send this beam of new light?

There have been many interesting comments on this thread, on how the org will alter its doctrines to keep up with the times. I think, though, there is another possible future for the Watchtower. You all seem to assume that they need a new set of dates or some new light on their doctrines if they are to survive. What if they don't?

Over the last few years, it seems like they have almost completely abandoned most of their core doctrines, either by admitting they were wrong about them (generation of 1914 seeing the end, earthquakes as part of the sign) or by just not discussing them at all(how long is a creative day?). At this point most of the those that have questions about their teachings have already left. The remaining r&f really don't care about doctrine, all they know is that they have the TROOF and they see no reason to leave. Now that most of them have accepted that the end of the system of things, although still certain to happen, may not occurr anytime soon, there is no real need to set another date. All that would do is lead to disappointment when the date arrives and nothing happens.

So the publications and study articles continue to be watered down, with no real content, no deep doctrinal material. Eventually of course, this will lead to declines as young people leave and no new members are brought in, but for now, the money still comes in... And although the boys at Patterson can see the problem, apparently they have no clue what to do about it, to turn things around. Or they are just to old to care....

like i don't like that un involvment, record keeping.

i don't know what to think about the paedophile stuff, because you could accuse the catholic church of that too.

but apart from those things i still believe that god's name is jehovah, his son is jesus, no trinity, and he died on a torture stake... i love reading the new world translation, i believe it's the best one, but i love reading other translations too!

For some reason this question comes up on the board quite often, the answer is Yes. Why wouldn't they be? The great crowd are a bunch of second-class citizens in WT theology.

Face it, smokers are costing us all money. This company has just found a way to trim their health care costs, which EVERY company wants to do, because these costs are skyrocketing.

Is it right? Maybe not. Is it fair? Probably not, but what is?

I can't get a straight answer

can anyone tell me if the organization believes that when a married spouse is addicted to pornography, they are actually cheating?

i mean cheating in the sense that the "innocent" spouse can then declare that they are victims of adultery, and be free to marry again?

i looked around their website and found nothing that specifically stated that it is considered cheating.

Has anyone else heard of a recent adjustment, where someone viewing Pornography *on the Internet* has automatically disassociated themselves? This is only internet porn, not videos, magazines, braille, morse code, interpretive dance.. ok sorry about that, I am getting off track... Anyway the rationalization I heard was that somehow viewing porn online was a "public" thing, somehow everyone would know you were viewing this or that site. Which makes no sense at all. I'm fairly certain the kid at the movie knows which customers like to rent the movies from the little room in the back, the guy at the book store has his regular customers, if anything the internet is more anonymous, not less.

I think the real reason for this is to further demonize the Net to the R&F. If young brother zealous is afraid to look for porn online, he sure isn't going to be looking for apostate sites.

Anyway, has anyone else heard of this? It was from a KM school 2-3 years ago, I believe.
